On Thursday, DBS reported a 20 per cent drop in its bottom line and said it will pay a dividend per share of S$0.18, while OCBC saw net profit falling 12 per cent. UOB on Wednesday said it is confident that its provisions should be strong enough to withstand further build-up of bad loans. At Wednesday's close, DBS shares rose S$0.12 or 0.6 per cent to S$21.55, OCBC gained S$0.06 or 0.7 per cent to S$8.63, and UOB was up S$0.35 or 1.8 per cent to S$19.80. Yangzijiang Shipbuilding: The Chinese shipbuilder's net profit slumped by 17 per cent year on year to 585.2 million yuan (S$119.4 million) for the July-September period. Yangzijiang's shares closed at S$0.94 on Wednesday, up S$0.01 or 1.1 per cent, before the results were released. Manulife US Real Estate Investment Trust (Manulife US Reit): Its portfolio occupancy declined slightly to 94.3 per cent for the three months ended Sept 30, from 96.2 per cent the previous quarter. This was largely due to known expiries unrelated to the Covid-19 pandemic and a slowdown in new leases, the manager said on Thursday. Manulife US Reit units ended trading at US$0.74, up 4.2 per cent or US$0.03. Trek 2000 International: It sank into the red for the third quarter with a net loss of US$700,000, versus a net profit of US$4,000 for the year-ago period. The mainboard-listed firm attributed this to a decrease in the market price of products in the face of increased competition during the coronavirus pandemic. The stock tumbled 0.8 Singapore cent or 10.3 per cent to end at seven cents on Wednesday, before the results were released. CapitaLand, Sembcorp Industries: Property behemoth CapitaLand has teamed up with SP Group and Sembcorp to jointly study the use of integrated energy solutions to power data centres, the three companies said on Thursday. In separate statements on Wednesday (Nov 4), the four mattress makers said they would honour the orders, despite Robinsons' failure to pay them. While Simmons, Serta and King Koil said they would make the deliveries with no extra charge, Sealy customers will have to pay a $50 delivery fee. All four mattress makers said they will contact each customer shortly to arrange for the deliveries. A Simmons spokesman said for customers who have made deposits or partial payments to Robinsons, it will absorb the payments and contact these customers "as soon as possible" to advise them on their balance payments and how their orders might be fulfilled. A statement posted on King Koil Singapore's Facebook page also said the company will absorb the amounts which customers have paid in deposits or partial payments. On its part, Sealy said it will contact customers who have either paid deposits or made partial payments to Robinsons for its beds to fulfil the orders. Sealy added that "hundreds" of customers had paid Robinsons in full, but it did not receive payment from Robinsons to supply or deliver the mattresses. In a Facebook post late on Wednesday, Serta Singapore said it will absorb all payments made to Robinsons in full or in part, even though it may not be reimbursed. It added that its representatives will be in touch with customers to advise them on arrear payments and order fulfilment. On Monday (Nov 2), the consumer watchdog here said it had received 20 complaints about Robinsons between last Friday (Oct 30) - when its liquidation was announced - and 4pm on Monday. Of these, 18 were from customers seeking a refund for mattresses they had pre-paid Robinsons in full for future delivery, said the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case). The mattresses cost between $2,299 and $6,149. Two other complaints were related to changes in how Robinsons vouchers could be used. The vouchers can now be used only if the customer spends at least twice the voucher's amount, said a document on liquidator's KordaMentha's website. Case said that consumers who have paid by credit card and wish to get back their pre-payments or deposits can file a chargeback request with their banks within 120 days of the transaction. It also advised consumers seeking refunds from Robinsons to file a proof of debt with the liquidators if they cannot get satisfactory recourse from the company. Robinsons' closure of its last two Singapore stores at The Heeren and Raffles City Shopping Centre comes after 162 years of its operations here. ITC 소송 당사자들이 각자의 주장과 상대측 주장에 대한 반론을 펼치는 변론(Hearing) 기일은 내년 3월 15∼19일 닷새 동안 진행된다. 위원회의 최종판결 전 ITC 행정판사가 예비결정을 내리는 기일은 내년 7월 30일이다. 특허 소송에서는 ITC 행정판사의 예비결정 가운데 약 90％가 ITC 위원회 최종결정에서도 유지된다. 앞서 LG화학은 지난해 4월 먼저 SK이노베이션이 자사의 배터리 핵심 인력을 빼가 영업 비밀을 침해했다며 ITC와 미국 델라웨어 지방법원에 소송을 제기했다. 같은 해 9월 SK이노베이션은 자사의 994 특허를 침해하는 배터리 제품을 LG화학이 미국에서 팔고 있다며 ITC에 특허소송을 제기했고, LG화학은 오히려 SK이노베이션이 특허를 침해했다며 ITC에 추가 소송을 제기했다. While staying cautious, they point to a recovery in business momentum as regional economies emerge from lockdowns, and note that provisions are ample to buffer against uncertainties over the extent of recovery next year. DBS DBS's net profit for its third quarter fell 20 per cent as the bank continued to bulk up allowances from the year-ago period, it said on Thursday. The bank will pay a dividend per share of 18 Singapore cents, unchanged from a quarter ago. Net profit for the three months ended Sept 30, 2020, stood at S$1.30 billion, compared with S$1.63 billion from the year-ago period. Total income was down 6 per cent, with both net income and fee income hurt, while trading income rose. Total allowances more than doubled from a year ago to S$554 million for the quarter. Over the quarter, net profit was up 4 per cent. In a statement, DBS chief executive officer (CEO) Piyush Gupta said the third-quarter's results reflect a recovery in business momentum as regional economies emerge from lockdowns. "The rebound in fee income to pre-Covid levels has enabled us to cushion the full impact of lower interest rates. At the same time, the accelerated build-up of allowances has strengthened our ability to meet the challenges of an uneven economic recovery in the coming year." OCBC OCBC on Thursday posted a 12 per cent fall in net profit for the third quarter on lower income and on a slight lift in allowances. Net profit for the three months ended Sept 30, 2020, stood at S$1.03 billion, compared with S$1.17 billion for the year-ago period. Total income was down 4 per cent from the year-ago period. Total allowances were up by 8 per cent to S$350 million. Over the quarter, net income jumped 40 per cent on lower allowances. In a statement, OCBC CEO Samuel Tsien said that while Q3 saw a recovery from the trough of the previous quarter, "we may not have seen the full extent of the lagging economic impact of the crisis yet, which will have more visibility next year". "In the meantime, we are proactively following and responding to the government relief programme exits in all markets." UOB UOB reported on Wednesday a 40 per cent drop in net profit for its third quarter as it built up allowances. Net profit for the three months ended Sept 30, 2020, stood at S$668 million, compared with S$1.12 billion for the year-ago period. Both net income and non-interest income were lower. An additional S$339 million in allowance for non-impaired assets was set aside to strengthen provision coverage, the bank said. Over the quarter, net profit was 5 per cent lower, though Q3 operating profit improved 3 per cent compared with Q2. UOB chief executive Wee Ee Cheong said in a media statement on Wednesday that the economic trajectory remains uneven and unclear, despite early signs of recovery across the global economy. While staying cautious, they point to a recovery in business momentum as regional economies emerge from lockdowns, and note that provisions are ample to buffer against uncertainties over the extent of recovery next year. DBS DBS's net profit for its third quarter fell 20 per cent as the bank continued to bulk up allowances from the year-ago period, it said on Thursday. The bank will pay a dividend per share of 18 Singapore cents, unchanged from a quarter ago. Net profit for the three months ended Sept 30, 2020, stood at S$1.30 billion, compared with S$1.63 billion from the year-ago period. Total income was down 6 per cent, with both net income and fee income hurt, while trading income rose. Total allowances more than doubled from a year ago to S$554 million for the quarter. Over the quarter, net profit was up 4 per cent. In a statement, DBS chief executive officer (CEO) Piyush Gupta said the third-quarter's results reflect a recovery in business momentum as regional economies emerge from lockdowns. "The rebound in fee income to pre-Covid levels has enabled us to cushion the full impact of lower interest rates. At the same time, the accelerated build-up of allowances has strengthened our ability to meet the challenges of an uneven economic recovery in the coming year." OCBC OCBC on Thursday posted a 12 per cent fall in net profit for the third quarter on lower income and on a slight lift in allowances. Net profit for the three months ended Sept 30, 2020, stood at S$1.03 billion, compared with S$1.17 billion for the year-ago period. Total income was down 4 per cent from the year-ago period. Total allowances were up by 8 per cent to S$350 million. Over the quarter, net income jumped 40 per cent on lower allowances. In a statement, OCBC CEO Samuel Tsien said that while Q3 saw a recovery from the trough of the previous quarter, "we may not have seen the full extent of the lagging economic impact of the crisis yet, which will have more visibility next year". UOB UOB reported on Wednesday a 40 per cent drop in net profit for its third quarter as it built up allowances. An additional S$339 million in allowance for non-impaired assets was set aside to strengthen provision coverage, the bank said. UOB chief executive Wee Ee Cheong said in a media statement on Wednesday that the economic trajectory remains uneven and unclear, despite early signs of recovery across the global economy. | Posted: 04 Nov 2020 05:36 PM PST taritkar.blogspot.com 呂書練 一個很有趣的現象：明明是早在上世紀二三十年前已經留學美加，並在當地定居乃至入籍逾20年的國際知名華裔學者，但幾乎全港媒體都用上了「清華學者」來作為兩位即將出任香港大學副校長的申作軍和宮鵬的定位，雖然這樣的定位不完全錯，也不見得貶低，卻不夠準確。 根據港大在校委會通過任命之後發出的新聞稿簡介，兩位理科教授雖然在內地成長，並接受本科乃至碩士教育，但都在20多歲時遠赴美加留學，在當地名校取得博士學位，也在不同的大學任教和從事研究工作，並在相關學術領域取得國際認可的成就，同時兼任行政工作。正如港大校長張翔教授所說：兩人「既是世界一流的學者，又是院系領袖」。 本來，像這樣兼具國際學術經驗和內地成長經歷的華裔學者既有利於加強港大的國際聯繫，也有助今後跟內地知名大學合作上的溝通，正是位處東西文化交匯的大學和香港社會需要的人才，卻因為有人把事件政治化了，令一宗院校自主的人事任命，成為「茶杯裏的風波」。可幸，港大校委會及其理性的校委們汲取了過去幾年被政客牽鼻子走的教訓，堅持原則，順利通過了任命。 其實，現位於北京西北郊的清華大學跟香港大學同在1911年成立，並結成姐妹大學，更同慶百歲生辰。清華作為內地理工科權威高校，研究能力和學術地位絕對不遜於港大，在近兩年的《泰晤士高等教育》（THE）世界大學排名榜中，清華的排名是亞洲第一，而港大則位列第四。雖然大學的價值和聲望不應只以排名作標準，但至少反映出由西方機構主導的排名榜中，「中國背景」的清華大學獲接受程度不比在意識形態接近西方的前殖民地大學低。 然而，在內地與香港兩地衝突的政治氣氛下，也在校委會開會表決前夕，有關消息顯然被「有心人」洩露或放料了。 傳媒自然「如獲至寶」，一為突出「清華學者」，二為突出「一人為黨委」，三是強調二人曾跟校長張翔同在加州大學柏克萊分校任教。於是一場政治「獵巫行動」迅速展開...... 在市場化壓力下，傳媒的報道手法有點「捕風捉影」，卻是民情的反映。重要的是，大學當局如何處理危機和後續工作，更重要的是，前期的甄選過程是否嚴謹和透明。從目前資料來看，港大這次做得不錯。 November 05, 2020 at 01:23AM https://ift.tt/32bRC7m 【獨家風景】清華學者- 香港文匯報 - 香港文匯報 https://ift.tt/2BjcDmh  |

| 「ヘソから下に人格はない」野村克也の語られざる球界タブー《サッチー不倫・チーム私物化》ついに雪解け - 文春オンライン Posted: 04 Nov 2020 05:19 PM PST tinggalaja.blogspot.com 南海歴史館には野村の「の」の字もない「野村さんは今でこそ社会的に認められた名将ですが、私個人としては王貞治さん、長嶋茂雄さんらと並ぶスーパースターでした。その野村さんが一番輝いていたのが南海時代。それにもかかわらず、ご厚意で作っていただいた南海の歴史館には野村の『の』の字もない。これはおかしいんじゃないかと思い、大阪球場のあった難波の地に野村さんを帰らせてあげたい。その思いから、今回のプロジェクトを実現させていくことになりました」   11月4日の会見で野球評論家の江本孟紀氏はこう語った。球界のレジェンドである野村克也氏の遺品が、大阪府浪速区の大阪球場の跡地に建てられた商業施設・なんばパークスにある「南海ホークスメモリアルギャラリー」に展示されることが正式に決まったことを伝える記者会見で、プロジェクトの発起人である江本氏が今回の展示の「意義」を強調したのだ。  南海ホークスで戦後初の三冠王に輝き、南海、ヤクルト、阪神、楽天で監督を務め、今年2月11日に84歳で亡くなった野村氏。南海球団の歴史上最高の打者だが、野村氏に関する展示は、これまでメモリアルギャラリーでは一切行われてこなかった。文字通り、「南海の歴史館には野村の『の』の字もなかった」のだが、果たしてなぜ野村氏は今日まで「南海の歴史」から抹殺されてしまったのか。そこには野村氏と南海との間で、長年にわたって解決できなかった「因縁の事件」があった——。 ◆ 話は今から50年前の1970年夏までさかのぼる。 この年、野村は南海ホークスの選手兼任監督に就任して1年目。東映フライヤーズとナイトゲームがあるため、原宿の宿舎に入った後、14時過ぎにマネージャーと2人で近くにあった「皇家飯店」という中華料理店に入った。野村がテーブルに腰を下ろしたとき、店内はマネージャーと2人だけだったが、ほどなくして日焼けした顔の、店の常連らしき女性が1人で入ってきた。すると店のおかみさんが、「監督、これも何かの縁だから」、そう言って、女性を紹介してくれた。それがのちに野村と再婚し、強烈なキャラクターでお茶の間に「サッチー」の愛称で知られることになる沙知代だった。  沙知代の第一印象を野村は「自分の考えを持った、しっかりした女性だな」と感じた。沙知代は野村がプロ野球の大スターであることをまったく知らず、日焼けした顔の野村が「雨が降ったら休まなければならない仕事です」と言ったことから、「建設現場で働いている人」だと思っていた。野村はそんな沙知代に好感をもった。このときの対面を機に、2人は急速に接近していく。野村35歳、沙知代38歳のときである。  社長令嬢の妻との夫婦生活はわずか数年で破綻だが、沙知代と知り合った頃の野村は既に結婚していた。当時のプロ野球選手は、社長令嬢と結婚することが一種のステータスとなっていた。プロ野球選手は現役時代こそ華やかだが、引退してしまえば何一つ生活の保障がない。先行き不安定な生活に将来の安全を、と考えた野村自身も、周囲に勧められるまま、26歳のときに社長令嬢と結婚した。 だが、貧しい環境で育った野村と、裕福な環境で育った妻とは、何もかもが合わなかった。夫婦生活はわずか数年で破綻し、別居状態に。また、選手兼任監督に就任したものの、チームの状況も芳しくなく、選手を掌握し統率するのに暗中模索の日々が続いていた。 野村は公私ともにフラストレーションがたまっていた中、沙知代と知り合ったのだ。心身ともに愛情に飢えていたところに、沙知代の存在に救われた思いがした。マイナス思考の野村にとって、プラス思考の彼女の言葉に幾度も救われた。  1972年、野村が恩人と慕う川勝傳南海ホークスオーナーに沙知代との関係を報告した。69年に南海が球団創設以来初となる最下位になった時に川勝オーナーが「他に人材がいない。無理を承知で頼む」と野村に頭を下げて、選手兼任監督を誕生させた経緯もあり、野村と川勝との間には、信頼関係が築かれていたのはまぎれもない事実だ。しかし、野村と沙知代の「不倫」は社会的には決して許される話ではない。 からの記事と詳細 https://ift.tt/3jSM8Ve スポーツ  |
